1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember choices, keep you signed in, run analytics or deliver advertising. Under UK law (PECR + UK GDPR) cookies that are not strictly necessary require your consent before they are set.
2. Our cookie principle
We deliberately run a minimal cookie set. VisitMalta.co.uk does not use behavioural advertising or cross-site trackers. We do not set Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, advertising-network or remarketing cookies by default.
3. The cookies we set
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| visitmalta_cookie_consent | Strictly necessary | Stores your cookie banner choice so we do not re-ask on every page. | 12 months |
| visitmalta_session | Strictly necessary | Anonymous session identifier used by Ask Malta AI to maintain conversation context within a visit. | Session (cleared when you close the browser) |
| vercel_* | Strictly necessary | Set by our hosting provider for routing, caching and DDoS protection. No personal data. | Varies, max 1 year |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Functional | Stores your preferred language and region if changed from the en-GB default. | 12 months |
4. Third-party processors
The Site is hosted by Vercel, which may set strictly-necessary cookies for routing and DDoS protection. These cookies are essential to deliver the Site and do not require consent under PECR.
Affiliate booking links to TripX Ltd and KM Malta Airlines redirect you to their own websites. Their own cookie notices apply from that point onwards. We do not place any tracking cookies into those onward sessions ourselves.
5. Controlling cookies
You can:
- Use the cookie banner that appears on your first visit to accept or decline non-essential cookies.
- Clear all VisitMalta.co.uk cookies via your browser’s privacy settings to be re-prompted.
- Set your browser to block cookies entirely, though some Site features may not work as a result.
- Email privacy@visitmalta.co.uk at any time to be re-prompted or to request data deletion.
6. Do Not Track
We respect browser-issued “Do Not Track” signals. When Do Not Track is enabled, we will not record optional analytics for your visit.
7. Changes to this policy
Where our cookie use changes, we update this page and refresh the cookie banner so existing visitors are re-prompted. The “Last updated” date above always reflects the latest version.
